Veria, a city in Central Macedonia and the capital of Imathia,located in Greece.

Situated at the foot of Vermio is a very important city of Macedonia 73 km away from Thessaloniki.

Places to visit

There are 5 museums of high importance,for example the museum of Vergina and many Byzantine churches.

The park of Elia, where you can take a lovely walk,.

Traditional districts such as Barbouta or Kyriotissa,the square orologeiou or St. Nicholas in Naoussa are also wonderful.

In adittion for your entertainment it is also worth visiting Seli and the ski resort Tria Pente Pigadia.

1)Vlachogianneio Museum of Modern Art and History

2)The Archaeological museum housed in a small modern building of 1960 decade.

3)The Byzantine museum housed the early 20th century until the late 1960 old flour mill of Stergios Markou.

4)And the Folklore museum(Sarafoglou Mansion) which the original construction of the building belongs to the 18th century, but its present form it took in the 19th century.There are 15 Churches, 47 Chapels and 1 Monastery in Veria county!

It is undeniable that in Veroia there are far too many places to visit.First of all there are 5 meseums and all of the of high imortance.The Vlachogianneio Museum of Modern Art and History,the Archaeological museum,the Byzantine museum,the Folklore museum and the museum of Vergina.Furthermore

in Veroia are located many big and small churches.There are 15 Churches, 47 Chapels and 1 Monastery! The biggest are:Saint Anthony Orthodox Church the biggest and most beautiful church,the church of Saints Anargyroi Orthodox church and last but not least the Old and New Orthodox Metropolis of Veria are also exquisite churches.In addition some very beautiful places places for a relaxing walk are offered.For example the park of Elia,located in the centre of the city, and

the square Orologeiou give the opportunity to get rid of stress by not only taking a walk but also having a drink or a coffe at the nearby cafes.Traditional districts such as Barbouta or Kiriotissa are also wonderful!Another point worth mentioning is the local ski resorts "Seli" and "Tria Pente Pigadia" which are worth visiting them.

Museums-churches: In Veria exist four museums:

1)Vlachogianneio Museum of Modern Art and History is a wonderful two storey neoclassical building.The museum houses historical relics,traditional costumes

and rich photographic collection of the family from the time of the Macedonian Struggle and the modern history and art.

2)The Archaeological museum housed in a small modern building of 1960 decade.In the courtyard overlooking the marble head of Medusa 2nd AD century.

Inside you can admire tombstones and grave finds of pottery and candle the Classical, Hellenistic and Roman, as remarkable sculptures and reliefs of the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

3)The Byzantine museum housed the early 20th century until the late 1960 old flour mill of Stergios Markou. Exceptional detached frescoes, some of his great picture gallery, mosaic floors, architectural sculptures , samples of pottery and the minor arts illustrate the influences received, but also the culture that has itself developed.

4)And the Folklore museum(Sarafoglou Mansion) which the original construction of the building belongs to the 18th century, but its present form it took in the 19th century., After additions were made, but they retained their morphological unity. Impressive is the ground floor, which for the most part is semi with many wooden columns that give theatricality.

Some information about Seli:

Kato Vermio is a mountain village and winter sports resort located in the Vermion Mountains of northern Greece. The village of Kato Vermio is located at a distance of 22 km from Veria and 93 km from Thessaloniki, in Imathia, Central Macedonia. The altitude of the village is 1400–1540 meters, the highest village in Greece. There are many restored and newly built vacation homes, mountain cottages and chalets in the village and the climate consists of cool summers and snowy winters. Most of the residents are native Greek speaking Vlachs. The village has many Inns & Hotels and a few cafe-bars and restaurants or tavernas.The ski lift in Seli was the first one built in the entire country in 1934, making Seli the oldest Ski resort in Greece.

3)Mt Voras(Kaimaktsalan) 43km From Veria

Some information about Mt Voras (Kaimaktsalan):

Kaimaktsalan is a mountain on the border between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia. It is the southernmost and highest peak, 2,524 metres (8,281 ft),of a range known in Greek as the Voras Mountains. The frontier between the two countries runs across the summit. It is the third highest peak in Greece after Mytikas and Smolikas and the fifth highest in the Republic of Macedonia.
